Capital Academy is a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF)
Located in Camden, NJ, just a few minutes from Philadelphia, PA. Capital Academy contracts with The Children System of Care (CSOC) under the auspices of the NJ Department of Children and Families (DCF), to provide the necessary services for youth under their care. The Joint Commission has fully accredited Capital Academy as a Behavioral Health Program
This urban setting provides students with access to major universities, museums, theaters and state-of-the-art medical facilities. In close proximity to the Academy are the Camden Aquarium, the Freedom Mortgage Bank Entertainment Center, Citizens Bank Ball Park (home of the Phillies), Lincoln Financial Field (home of the Eagles), Wells Fargo Center (home of the Sixers) and a host of other attractions for education, art, history, and entertainment.
The Office of Education (OOE), under DCF, provides the education for all students at our Capital Academy campus. Capital Academy students utilize the KROC center in Camden for student activities and some allied therapies. Allied therapy is also offered with Say it With Clay classes facilitated by Licensed Art Therapists. Additionally, our students participate in allied therapy through Blue Light Media, which allows students to record their own music, learn how to play instruments and film videos.
Our Medical Department is staffed with a full time Psychiatric APN and a compliment of RN’s, LPNs, Psychiatrist and Psychologist to provide the necessary assessments and care for all students. Capital Academy also has a full serviced Food Services Department, providing nutritious meals for students and staff.

Additionally, The Six Core Strategies for Restraint Reduction as part of New Jersey’s Promising Path to Success which is the strength of the clinical model. Our Clinical Team, (all Licensed Therapists) and Child and Family Treatment Team are responsible for treatment plans and all reviews.

- Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Challenging anti-social belief systems
- Substance abuse therapy
- Sexually reactive/offending treatment
- Fire setting/safety group
- Anger management/dysregulation therapy

Capital Academy Profile
Students admitted to Capital Academy have experienced traumatic events in their lives that require Clinical interventions. Students typically have a history of abuse and neglect, trauma, failures in other programs, limited personal success and clinical diagnoses that require out of home placement.
- Male adolescents aged 14.5-18.5 upon admission
- Histories of mild to severe trauma
- Victims of neglect, sexual, physical, or emotional abuse
- Histories of previous program failure
- Some involvement with delinquent behaviors
- Antisocial behaviors and values
- Full IQ of 60 and above
